Action Alert: CCPA Enforcement Has Begun. Never Fear, ePublishing Is Here!

Wednesday, July 8, 2020

California has gone live with new privacy laws you will need to be in compliance with. Other states are expected to emulate these regulations soon. ePublishing has been hard at work on a solution that will super-power your privacy protections.

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) was enacted in June of 2018. It went into effect on January 1, 2020, and legal enforcement of the Act began on July 1, 2020.

What is CCPA? This Act creates new consumer rights relating to the access to, deletion of, and sharing of personal information that is collected by businesses (see https://oag.ca.gov/privacy/ccpa for more info).

Under CCPA, visitors to your site must clearly be presented with information regarding the tracking cookies your site uses. They must also easily be able to accept or deny these cookies. We have recently added functionality that will remove the tracking cookies that ePublishing has control over for users who deny; it will continue to allow cookies to be created for users who have either taken no action or have accepted.

So, how can ePublishing help my site comply with CCPA requirements? Glad you asked! Check out this Knowledge Base article to get started.

When drafting your content for the CCPA banner and Consumer Privacy page, we recommend you consult with your legal team on specific verbiage you should be using. You can find more information about how your site uses cookies in this Knowledge Base article.
