Our Design Process

May 03, 2010

ePublishing provides complete design services for your online publication, including custom layout, graphics and user interface. You’ll select from multiple draft designs created by our in-house design staff with years of publishing industry experience: a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t fit when your business is at stake.

You are in control of the design process as we pay close attention to brand consistency and include an extensive assessment of your publication’s market, competition and most likely search keywords. We incorporate search optimization, content optimization and usability analysis into our design process.

Step 1: Usability Review – Current Site. You probably have a sense of what you would like to improve in your current Website. From that starting point, we review your site to identify possible points of improvement with attention to look and feel, functionality, scalability, navigation and overall user-friendliness.

Step 2: Questionnaire/Interview. What are your objectives for your online publication? What is your brand? What features and functionality will help you achieve your revenue goals? Before we begin designing your site, we discuss with you your business plan and its impact on design of the site.

Step 3: Search Optimization/Content Optimization. Who are your readers? What search keywords do they use to locate your online publication and your posted content? Our search experts analyze your site and its goals and ensure that the design of the site - the navigation bars, links, and other elements - reflects your search objectives.

Step 4: Site Prototype. The next step in the process combines the best approaches to iterative design while expediting turnaround time.  The site prototype includes draft designs overlaid with descriptions of each page element and feature - banner ad placement and sizes, article placement, drop-down menus, etc. Giving you the ability to review design and functionality for the homepage and interior pages shortens the design process from months to a matter of weeks.

Step 5: Design Approval and Conversion to CSS.  After the design is approved, our programming and design teams collaborate to create the appropriate CSS representation of the pages.

Step 6: Quality Assurance.  In the final stage of our design process, we test the site’s design elements, including navigation flow, image loading, page appearance in multiple browsers and operating systems.

Step 7: Platform Implementation. Following design approval and testing implementation of the ePublishing platform begins, again resulting in rapid turnaround and speed to market.
